TranceFixxed: Hi Christina, thank you for finding the time to chat with us. Do you have a message for your Welsh fans that didn’t get to see you at the Together Festival?
Christina: I’m so sorry I couldn’t be there, Wales is one of my favourite places to go!!
TranceFixxed: You first came to everyone’s attention working with Gareth Emery on ‘Concrete Angel’ and recently you came full-circle to work with him again on ‘Dynamite’ for his new album ‘Drive’. How was it different working with Gareth the second time around?
Christina: Both times have been very different. This time around, I flew out to LA to write with Gareth and with Roxanne my manager. We booked into a studio and spent a couple of days hanging out and being creative. It was an incredible atmosphere.
TranceFixxed: The acapella vocal of ‘Dynamite’ was published on Soundcloud in March before the album was released, which was unusual. Why did you decide to do that?
Christina: I think the idea behind that is, there are so many incredible producers / DJs out there, if you just go on Soundcloud there are constant remixes being done. Just because you aren’t signed or in the Top 100 DJ poll, it doesn’t mean you can’t have a go! I’ve heard some amazing mixes that have been sent to me, so many different styles. It’s been great to hear so many different takes on it.
TranceFixxed: Your track ‘Back To You’ with Fabio XB got over 50% of the ‘Future Favourite’ vote from the listeners for Episode 649 of Armin van Buuren’s prestigious A State of Trance Radioshow recently. DJ Mag described ‘Back to You’ as where you “exorcise the ‘Concrete Angel’ ghost”. Would you agree with that?
Christina: That’s very kind of them to say! I love that track I play the remix in my set all the time
TranceFixxed: Who writes the lyrics to your songs?
Christina: Me, or I co-write with producer Joe Lawrence.
TranceFixxed: Who are the other Vocalists and Singers that you admire?
Christina: Johnny Cash, Lauren Hill and Joni Mitchell.
TranceFixxed: I understand that you’re a member of the VSA (Vocalist Songwriter Alliance), a non-profit organisation that stands up for the rights of vocalists and songwriters. Have you ever had a ‘bad experience’ working in the industry and needed their support?
Christina: No, no bad experiences working in the industry yet but I know they’re there if I need them!
TranceFixxed: At the end of April, you released online a new mix provocatively entitled “This Is The Sound aka #TITS Episode 001”. Is this going to become a regular podcast? When can we expect the next episode to be available?
Christina: Yes! This has been great fun to do, and is seems to have gone down very well. Episode 2 was released last month, and I will 100% keep this a regular thing.
TranceFixxed: How would you describe the type of music that you play?
Christina: Whatever I feel like at the time, I tailor my sets to the crowd and what they want. I like to use a lot of rock vocals too in my live sets.
TranceFixxed: When they heard that I was going to speak to you, your fans were excited at the possibility of being able to ask you some questions! Here is a selection of some of them:
Are you working on a solo record or an album at the moment?
Christina: Yes I am working on my first single right now, I am super excited for everyone to hear it! This song is very special to me and I feel the lyrics will really take you on a journey. You’ll hear more about that soon, hopefully.
TranceFixxed: What are your 3 favourites songs, and why?
Christina: In no particular order:
London Grammar – Wasting My Young Years (Sound Remedy Remix)
Yuna – Lullabies (Adventure Club Remix)
Gareth Emery feat. Roxanne Emery – Soldier
TranceFixxed: What do you think about your fans?
Christina: If it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t be doing this. They’re why I wake up every single day.
TranceFixxed: Do you prefer cooking, DJing, singing or eating cheese?
(Thanks Lin Leferz on Facebok for that great question!)
Christina: All three, haha! However, I have had to massively cut down on the cheese! Cooking is more of a hobby for me, I am extremely passionate about it, but I have to say, singing and DJing has my heart and soul, and I couldn’t imagine my life without it.
TranceFixxed: Paola from Mexico would like to know, what’s the best moment you’ve ever had, either in music or your personal life?
Christina: Has to be my baby brother being born. I was there for the entire thing, and cut his cord!
TranceFixxed: Final fan question: A few fans would like to know, is there an address that they can send fan mail / gifts to?
Christina: Sure! Christina Novelli Fan Mail, 6 to 7 Market Place, Devizes, SN10 1HT, UK.
TranceFixxed: Thanks for that. So to finish, do you have other releases coming out this summer?
Christina: Yes, I’m super excited to announce ‘Dynamite’ will be out on the 24th of August with the video release out on the same day that was shot in Miami. Very exciting!
TranceFixxed: Where will fans next be able to find you on tour?
Christina: I’m pretty much on tour all the time. It’s best to check my website (www.christina-novelli.com) for any updates.
TranceFixxed: It’s been great to hear from. All the very best wishes for future.
