Chicane: “Mark Knight has Sampled ‘Saltwater’ Without My Permission”

Chicane Vs Mark Knight

Nick Bracegirdle, better known for his Chicane alias, is no stranger to music sampling. A number of his tracks feature samples such as from Gary Numan, Paul Young, Moby and Sigur Rós. Probably his most famous ‘sample’ is his hit record ‘Saltwater’, released in 2000, which features Maire Brennan of Clannad singing an extract of their 1983 song ‘Theme From “Harry’s Game”‘.

UK DJ and producer Mark Knight has recently released his new track ‘The Return Of Wolfy’ which appears to directly sample ‘Saltwater’. Apparently this sample was not authorised prior to release, and Nick took to Twitter to share his frustration:

As yet, there has been no response from Mark or his representatives on this matter. So has Mark really sampled from Chicane, or is this a misunderstanding? Judge for yourself by listening to the 2 tracks below:

Suggestion – Compare ‘Saltwater’ from 2 mins 22 sec onwards to ‘The Return Of Wolfy’ from 1 min 40 sec onwards
