New Daft Punk App Confirmed – Exclusive to the Samsung Galaxy S4
A new Daft Punk app is to be released including “teasers and artwork” for the eagerly awaited new album. Reports are that the app will be initially launched exclusively on the new Samsung Galaxy S4 handset in late April / early May and will be available on the general iTunes and Android markets by the summer.
A recent leak from a programmer who has been working on the app confirmed it’s existence and that it’s interface “has been designed for optimal use with the Galaxy S4″ which may mean that this will be the first app to take advantage of the S4′s new Air Gesture feature. It’s not yet clear if the app will be preloaded on the Galaxy S4 handset or if it will be made available to be optionally downloaded via a secure link once the handset has been registered.
The other exciting information is that the app will include a “Bonus Content” section which the user will be able to be unlock with a code included with verified purchases of the new album. No further information is currently available about what the bonus content is, but the most popular theory is a possible bonus ’14th Track’ (it was also confirmed yesterday that the released album will be 13 tracks long and approximately 74 minutes in length).
If these reports are true, this new app is a shrewd move that will be mutually beneficial to both Samsung and Daft Punk with the huge amount of of publicity already surrounding both the Galaxy S4 and the new Daft Punk album.
This flurry of activity whets the appetite even more for the new album’s release, which frustratingly we still don’t know the name of or the release date for. The build up to this album launch is starting to reach fever pitch, so surely it can’t be that much further away. Unless Daft Punk have even more teasers in store…

Update (20th March)
I contacted Samsung to ask if they had any comments on this, and to ask who the developer is for the app. Samsung replied and confirmed that it has been developed by a third party developer. Here is the email response I received from Samsung in full:
This indicates that:
01. The Daft Punk app exists and is known about within Samsung. How do I make this conclusion? The language used in the 4th paragraph:
As this application has not been released on any Samsung devices yet, we do not have information about the developer of this application in our Customer Support database. You are welcome to contact us at your convenience in the future and we will be happy to provide the information we have about this application, once it has been launched.
Reads “it’s going to be available on Samsung devices in the future” and “we have information in our database about the application that I am not authorised to share with the public yet”. What do you think?
02. The Daft Punk app will be made available to be optionally downloaded via a secure link once the handset has been registered, rather than preloaded on the handset by Samsung. This makes sense, as it allows Samsung to refer all queries about the app to the third party Technical Support, as this would be no different to what their response would be if a user requests help with Angry Birds!
